Deanna Bogart Band, Here for the Party set to play for Capital City Blues Festival, presented by C. Michael Davenport Chapel Charities Foundation

August 20 event a fundraiser for Council on Family Abuse

The 2010 Capital City Blues Festival, presented by the C. Michael Davenport Chapel Charities Foundation and other sponsors, is scheduled for Friday, August 20 from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. at River View Park in downtown Frankfort and will feature the Deanna Bogart Band and Frankfort’s own Here for the Party Band.

The outdoor concert is the Council’s primary fundraiser, providing not only a great night of live music but also helping the Council continue to serve the needs of domestic violence victims and build awareness of domestic violence, elder abuse and child abuse throughout the community.

Down Beat magazine describes Deanna Bogart as "an extravagant entertainer.” The Maryland-based blues and boogie pianist/saxophonist, who performed at the Grand Theatre earlier this year, combines the energy of 1930s style boogie piano blues with contemporary blues sounds emanating from places like New Orleans, Chicago and Memphis.

Frankfort resident Theresa Bennett saw the Deanna Bogart Band at the Grand and is already looking forward to catching her at this year’s Blues Festival.

“Wow, she was amazing! She played some butt kickin’ music that night,” Bennett said. “She is very energetic and unique. She can jump from the sax to the piano effortlessly and has a great soulful voice. She is a true talent, I was dancing in my seat! I am so glad she is coming back.”

The Here for the Party Band has become a regional-favorite known for rocking blues standards and throwing in some surprises along the way. With Frankfort’s own David Harrod on harmonica, the performance is guaranteed to be a hit.

“This really is an awesome lineup,” Harrod, who also serves as the Festival’s Honorary Chair said. “Deanna and her band are just incredibly talented and I think we’ll see folks from throughout the region here for this year’s Festival – it’s going to be the hottest ticket around!”

And, instead of slaving over a hot stove or picking up fast food, attendees are invited to pre-order dinners provided by 610 Barbecue. Pre-ordering is recommended since vendors will have only a limited selection of food available the night of the event. 610 Barbecue will offer two dinner choices, including a pulled pork sandwich or barbecued quarter chicken with baked beans, corn on the cob and cole slaw. Dinners can be pre-ordered for $15 each when tickets are purchased.

610 Barbecue’s Russ Kennedy shared their excitement about being part of the Festival, "Our first-ever public barbecue was at Riverview Park, a wonderful setting for fun. Add great music, good food and fun-loving folks and you have all the ingredients for a super event. And all of this is to help a great cause right here in our community. We're excited to be part of it!"

Both individual tickets and tables are available for the festival. Tables of 8, including dinner from 610 Barbecue, are $375 for preferred seating and $300 for regular seating. Tables are also available without dinners for $275 (preferred) and $200 (regular). General admission tickets are available for $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Those who purchase general admission tickets are invited to bring blankets and chairs.

“We’re also excited that we’ll be offering food and the option to pre-order your meal when you order your tickets or to buy when you get there,” Harrod added. “This Festival is a total package with great music, food and the river – you won’t want to miss it! All you have to do is make plans to come!”

Tickets and tables will go on sale July 10 and be available at the Frankfort Tourist Commission, located at the corner of Capital Avenue and Second Street, or by calling Laura Leigh Goins at (502) 229-6999 or emailing fccofa@gmail.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate the night of the Festival.
