Commonwealth Gardens Presents Second Annual Harvest Festival at River View Park

Local musicians, artists, and organizations come together to celebrate the fall season and raise awareness about Frankfort’s community gardens.

Special to Capital Living

The Commonwealth Gardens Second Annual Harvest Festival will take place on Saturday, September 25, at River View Park located on Wilkinson Boulevard in downtown Frankfort. The events will begin immediately after the Farmer’s Market at 1 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m. This is the Commonwealth Gardens second time hosting the Harvest Festival to raise awareness about local food, agriculture, and community gardening.

The day’s events will include nine local musical acts, a speaker from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, a wide variety of community organization informational booths, food, raffles and door prizes, art displays and demonstrations, and children’s activities.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the mission of the Commonwealth Gardens is to provide a catalyst for the formation of community gardens in every neighborhood in the Frankfort area. The organization encourages education for adults and children about the rewards of gardening in the Frankfort and Franklin County community. Commonwealth Gardens promotes self-reliance, takes part in an on-going movement to increase the consumption of locally grown food, and creates opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education. The organization has set up community gardens in the Frankfort areas of Logan Street, Todd Street, Bellepoint, Elkhorn Elementary, Collins Lane Elementary, and seven other locations.

Help the Commonwealth Gardens increase awareness about locally grown food and healthy living in Frankfort and Franklin County by supporting the Second Annual Harvest Festival. All of the proceeds from this event will go directly to the Commonwealth Gardens, allowing the organization to continue expanding services to the community.
