Enjoy this year’s February Teas at

 Liberty Hall Historic Site

Special to Capital Living

Back by popular demand, Liberty Hall Historic Site will once again offer an opportunity to step into the past at their February Teas. This year’s teas are scheduled at Noon on February 5 and 6 and then the next week on February 12 and 13 and will feature a luncheon. They are $22 per person, $20 for members of the Site. A special high tea is offered at 3:30 p.m. on February 5 and 12 and is $15 or $13 for members. Reservations are required, but may be made by calling 227.2560 or emailing educator@libertyhall.org.

This year’s teas will feature the art and poetry of Robert Burns Wilson. Wilson was a Pennsylvania native who came to Louisville in 1871 and moved to Frankfort four years later to paint portraits. He spent almost 30 years capturing the area’s natural beauty in landscapes and poems.

It is for “Remember the Maine,” however, that Wilson was most known for by most Americans. The poem was printed in newspapers across the nation and strengthened the American spirit after the Navy ship that sunk on the coast of Cuba and was one of the causes of the Spanish-American War.

Incidentally, Wilson is one of many great Kentuckians – both native and non-native– buried at the Frankfort Cemetery.
